BIZMATCH AT MALAYSIAN PALM OIL FORUM 2024 KUALA LUMPUR DRIVES RM 1.24 BILLION IN FUTURE SALES, CREATING NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Kuala Lumpur, 11 October 2024 – The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) successfully hosted its Business Matching (BizMatch) meetings alongside the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum (MPOF) Kuala Lumpur 2024, held at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, on 8-9 October 2024.

The BizMatch, held on the forum’s second day, brought together over 100 buyers from 30 countries, including key players in the oils & fats and food industries from regions such as the Asia Pacific, South Asia, Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe. A total of 24 Malaysian suppliers participated in the event, engaging in valuable business discussions with international delegates to explore trade opportunities and expand their reach in these markets.

The day-long interactions saw Malaysian suppliers reporting the highest number of inquiries from the African region, followed by the Asia Pacific, Middle East, India, and Central Asia. This strong interest highlights the growing demand for Malaysian palm oil in these markets and the effectiveness of focused engagement efforts.

Commenting on the success of the BizMatch, MPOC CEO Ms. Belvinder Sron said, “The high level of interest from regions such as Africa, ASEAN, and Central Asia align perfectly with MPOC’s ongoing marketing and promotional efforts. These areas have been the focus of our strategic initiatives, and the results from BizMatch demonstrate the impact of our targeted approach to expanding market access and driving demand for Malaysian palm oil products

Ms. Belvinder Sron further announced that Malaysian suppliers recorded potential sales of RM 1.24 billion from the BizMatch sessions, reflecting the significant commercial opportunities generated during the event. “The majority of the interest from buyers was centred on key products such as palm olein, palm stearin, and downstream items like shortening, cocoa butter substitutes (CBS), and palm kernel oil,” she added. These outcomes underscore the versatility and value of Malaysian palm oil in meeting the diverse needs of global markets, and we are confident that these engagements will translate into long term trade relationships.

In addition to the BizMatch, international buyers also had the opportunity to visit the SD Guthrie’s Palm Oil Experience Centre in Carey Island, where they gained firsthand insights into the palm oil production process. The visit provided an in-depth understanding of the industry’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation, allowing delegates to experience the various stages of palm oil processing and learn about the diverse range of products derived from palm oil. This initiative further enriched the participants’ experience, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a trusted and leading global supplier in the palm oil industry.
