The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) organised a seminar entitled “Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil for the Vietnamese Market” intended to share the industry’s objectives, principles, advantages, and role in meeting sustainability requirements, as well as supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The event also provided an opportunity to address queries and questions on MSPO from the Vietnamese market.
Rina Mariati Gustam, Regional Manager, Asia Pacific, MPOC, delivered an opening remark before presenting on the “Overview of the Oils and Fats Industry in Vietnam” which reviewed market demand and growth in Vietnam. Peh Ping Teik, Head of Technical in Vietnam, Wilmar CLV (Cambodia – Laos – Vietnam) delivered his presentation, “Palm Oil Application in Baking and Specialty Fats”, which touched on the versatility and positive attributes of palm oil.
Tan Chee Yong, Manager, Technical Outreach & Extension Service Unit, Strategic Management Department, MPOCC, presented on “Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO): UN SDGs & Responsible Sourcing”. He explained, among others, the improved sustainability requirements including ILO indicators, environment, and governance. He also highlighted MSPO Trace, with its important features of providing information and geo-location.
The final session for the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil for the Vietnamese Market seminar was the Q&A session with the three presenters – Rina Mariati Gustam, Peh Ping Teik, and Tan Chee Yong.
