FELDA, via a subsidiary, will build a US$53 milion (RM182.32) palm oil
refinery, on a joint-venture basis, in Khopoli, India, middle of this
year, its chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Noor said yesterday.
He said the refinery was expected to be completed at the end of 2011.
"During Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Ra-zak's recent visit to
India, our subsidiary company signed an agreement with an Indian
counterpart to build the refinery which will be the first by a Malaysian
entity," he said last night after launching Felda Villa Package.
Mohd Yusof said the refinery in Khopoli, about 90km from Mumbai, would
contribute significantly to Felda's bottom line and to the nation's
coffers.
Meanwhile, commenting on the National Food Warehouse programme, he
said a detailed blueprint must be prepared to facilitate its orderly
implemenation.
"It cannot be an ad hoc programme, it must be
done properly with a blueprint and we are looking into it now.
"If the National Food Warehouse is established in haste, we will
encounter problems," he said, adding that the blueprint should be
reviewed every five years. - Bernama
